I am a new MT graduate. I am hoping to set up a home business working with the two other ladies who graduated with me.
I have always been interested in medicine. My mother was an Orthopaedic-Surgical Nurse and was (and still is) always sharing her medical expertise. I obtained an A.A. in Pre-Med. Then I got the "brilliant" idea that I had had enough of school and decided to become a secretary. But I never did give up my interest in medicine.
About five years ago I became a single mother of two girls who are now teen-agers. I quickly realized that I would need to look for a career that would offer me a better means of supporting myself and my daughters. I became interested in court reporting, and I started attending school in August of 1991. I had never realized how involved and complicated this course could be nor how long it would take. I had reached a speed of 180 wpm and was struggling to obtain the required 250 wpm when my school started offering an MT program using the steno machine. I jumped at the chance to switch, and I am extremely happy I did. It is a wonderful meshing of two worlds.
I am anxious to get started and to learn more about this fascinating field.
